John and Caroline Happersberger - April 8, 1893 to January 17, 1900
Simon Goldman sold lots 2832 and 2833 to John Happersberger in 1893 as part of a Bellmonte Addition that Simon and his son Charles were creating.
The home built on this land was required to be a two-story dwelling with a minimum of five rooms and a cellar. The home had to sit at least 35’ from Alameda Avenue (now The Alameda) which runs across the front of the home and 15’ from Lexington Avenue (now Sherman Avenue) which runs along the right side. The house had to be completed within two years of the land purchase and had to be worth a minimum of $2000.
John Happersberger was born around 1854 in Germany. He immigrated to the United States in 1871 where he met his wife Caroline. They were married in 1879 and had four children, Carl, John and two daughters, Emma and Thusnelda. In 1881, John Happersberger, a watchmaker, owned a jewelry and watch store in Lima, Ohio. He later opened another jewelry store in MIddletown.
William Caldwell - January 17, 1900 - September 30, 1909
Charles R. Hook - September 30, 1909 to 1920
Charles R. Hook owned the residence from September 30, 1909 until 1920. This was during the time that the Hook Mansion was being built.
