Future Armco President and son in law of George Verity, Charles R. Hook built his home in The Highlands in 1914 and it became the poster home for life in the new neighborhood. Brochures and advertisements offering good building sites, an abundance of light, good air, drainage, and all the perks of the hilltop location made The Highlands “ the healthiest spot in Middletown” and the people flocked to the east end to “Get the Elevation” by building on The Highlands.
As the neighborhood grew and lots sold the social activities did as well. The Episcopal Church of Ascension built a new home in The Highlands near the hospital. Clubs were started and dances were held to celebrate the debutantes of the day had their coming out parties to announce their arrival into society.
The Past and The Future
Our homes have seen the best and the worst times in the lives of so many people who are important in the story of Middletown Ohio. From weddings and children to fires and deaths, these homes are our story and we look forward to sharing it all with you!
